Blog 10

My overall experience with the blog was shaky in the beginning, because like everyone, i was confused about the assignment, however once Dr. Smith cleared everything up for me, i was comfortable with my purpose in the blog. The blog gave me a reason to change, a change for the best... because this change will last a lifetime. Checking my fellow classmates blogs was cool as well, because you get a chance to see how your peers are changing as well. i took the assignment a step futher and challenged my family with the same thing that my class and i was doing... and everything worked out for the best, yes we came across some challenges, but we faught threw them. I am very appreciative of this class, and what it has allow me to accomplish.

We are now coming close to the end of the semester and i feel as if i have been very effective in the blog and in the way ive changed my habits.. i have also influenced my family to change some of their bad habits as well.. in my personal opinion i think that the blog was a great idea for the class, and the options were terriffic because they were both very interesting topics in which the class can also learn from. Most of the students in the class are in our late teens, early twenties.. soo changing bad habits, so early is very effective and will have a good impact on the environment and on the type of person we will be in our more mature years to come.

Museum of Natural History

The trip to the museum was very intresting..because I havent been to one since i was like 12...however it was a great learning experience. Although it was tiring it was very fun. I did have pics but my wack phone wont allow me to email them.

The Exhibit that my group(Tianna and myself) decided to focus on was the "African Peoples."

We chose to do "African Peoples", because we felt connected to the exhibit in a way. When we entered the exhibit everything was so powerful from the colors, costumes and figures that were shown in the installations.

The installation that struck me the most was "Pokot Women." This installation focused on the Pokot women in Africa and their lifestyle.

Logos: During puberty the pokot women undergo a clitoridectomy in public to show there strength and there new found status as women.

Ethos: There were several items shown in the installation. many which represents their culture. There was sets of clothing and beads, these sets represented the different age group of the women. Every stage wore different things to separate them from each other. The knife that was used in there public show was also present.

Pathos: After reading and viewing this installation I did in someway feel sympathetic, but thats the way of life that they have to live and that they are accustomed too

In reviewing my information that i gathered, i feel that i can make an effort in "going green" in the following areas.
Instead of getting my hair done every week, i will get it done once every two weeks: by doing this i will help saving energy and also reduce the amount of CFC'S that I use.
I will encourage my parents to start recyeling, this will reduce the vast amount of trash that is being thrown away without being reused.
Try to reuse my beverage bottles, which will contribute to going green.
I will also try and use one notebook for the entire skool year which will help save more trees.

for this particular blog, in which we had to weigh our trash for 48 hours i had a total weigh of 3 pounds for the duration of two days...so in a year my total weight of garbage will be 547.5 pounds.. That is a huge amount of trash.. so if everyone is dumping that amount of trash on the earth and isnt recyeling, it can and will become a big problem.

Here is a list of everything that i carry around in my bag...
notebook( the paper is recyclable) 2 ink pens. my wallet, the money (dollars and change)is resusable. The plastic that i have in my wallet is recyclable; such as ID cards,(plastic) house keys,(metal) textbooks(paper). When i go home i usually eat snacks which come in plastic packaging, everyday when i go home i eat cool ranch doritos and a revive vitamin water all of which is recyclable.
When moms cook most of the food comes in either plastic or cans, the drinks are usually in bottles. My family doesnt recycle, but im trying to convince my mom that when she dont, shes just contributing to the demolishing of the earth.

In reseraching the global impact that we have on waste, a study shows that the most widespread problem associated with dumps is acid drainage. Acid drainage can have a huge impact on the productivity of ecosystems. There is also a low supply of healthy water in the continent of africa due to a study shown by the BP

Research Topic (Blog 1)

The topic that I chose to write my research paper on was "My Low-Impact Analysis." I believe that although im only one person I still have a huge impact on whats happening in the environment right now. Alot of small problems grow into bigger ones. We as people need a huge wake up call because we are taking advantage of the supplies and little amount of sources that we have to survive. Wake Up People!! When we pollut the earth were only killing ourselves. Did you know? that pollution can cause bloodclots. Tiny particles of air pollution can cause bloodclots, heart attacks, strokes and the inflammation of the lungs which can lead to cardiovascualer disease. Lets be smart people!!

ME

My name is Chavone Danielle Townes. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. I am the oldest of four children and it sucks! I’m also an active server in the Army as a reservist. I choose to be in the reserves because honestly I cannot see myself wearing the uniform everyday. A career in the military is not something that interests me. My enrollment in the army was a very random decision for my family and friends, it was June 2006 the end of my high school years and I have been accepted to several universities with no source of payment besides financial aid which in my case wouldn’t cover much of my expenses. So I then decided to join the military, the training wasn’t as hard as I imagined but it was enough to transform me from a prissy girl into a solider for the United States.
Let’s rewind so you can get to know more about who Chavone really is. I’m Chavone and to those who know me they call “Princess” which is a nick name that I acquired from my late grandmother. I’m one of those young ladies who love to shop, hangout, and enjoy life, just like everyone else. I often surprise people with my abilities to be very diverse. I’m from a part of Brooklyn where most people would probably drive past at 90 miles per hour without stopping. Most people characterize Brownsville as a bad place but for me its home, yeah there’s some violence that goes on every now and then but there’s violence everywhere. My family would like for me to become a doctor so that I can move them out of Brownsville, hopefully to a house in the country but I definitely don’t see that happening. My goals in life are to be very successful and independent. As far as my career goes at one point in time I wanted to be a physical therapist that way I can convert over to sports medicine. Being that I absolutely love sports that would be something that I wouldn’t mind getting up to do everyday. I also have an interest in serving in the criminal justice field. I wanted to do something along the line of parole/probation officer. Investigating my interests in future careers led me to change my major from Veterinary Technology to liberal arts Social Sciences and Humanities, which is why I’m currently in this cluster of classes. I’m in my second semester of college, In this cluster I plan on succeeding and moving on, that way I can get my associates and transfer to a four year college.. I have shared the inside view of myself with you and I hope you enjoyed it!
